Book Babes!
Welcome to my site, Byayanaellis.com!
Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by, shop, read and look around! Well, this is my first blog on my site. It's been a while since I've rested my hands on the home row keys, closed my eyes and created a journey for my readers to go through. It's been since 2012 to be exact when I released my third novel King Me! So, I hope you enjoy my 9th release, "Daughters."
Being an Author is not easy. In the words of Prodigy from Mobb Deep, on Quiet Storm, I put my lifetime in between the paper's lines! And with that, we leave ourselves vulnerable and open for strangers and trolls to attack and critique what's in our hearts and what we've so bravely decided to share with the world for your education and/or entertainment.
But this isn't about that!
What I'd like to discuss is what I deem to be the hardest part about being an Author (to me), which is when people ask, what kind of books do you write?
My fellow authors, does it bother you too? Or is it just me?
When I'm asked that, the first thought that comes to mind is Um the kind of books that you read?!? Isn't that what the synopsis is for? Just read it! *Hard eye roll*
However, I understand that people genuinely want to know ...
Or do they?
To me, that question is the same as when someone asks, "so what do you do?" as it pertains to how you make a living. I feel as if most people ask that question in order to determine whether they should pursue you or respect you, contingent upon your reasons for conversing in the first place.
Well, I don't have a simple answer to, what kind of books do you write, so it always leaves me stumped, which then leaves me annoyed because I always got some shit to say LOL. Because I don't write hood books, chick books, urban books (Though I am from the hood and ironically enough my first book was released under Urban Books). Ain't nothing wrong with none of those genres. But I refuse to be pigeonholed.
I write the kind of books that tells stories about girls that become women through trials and triumph, the kind of books that most women can relate to. Nine times out of ten you've been through what I've written about or someone close to you has. You felt that heartbreak or that victory. You loved someone that hard or grieved that loss. You've wanted that relationship, you've played yourself, you grew up without a daddy, you fought your mother, you felt alone, you wanted more, you felt lonely, you succeeded, you won, you lost, you were just a woman, growing up in the hood, maybe in the suburbs but the bottom line is you strived to be better, mentally, emotionally, financially, spiritually, physically, all the "ally's" That's the kinds of books that I write.
So, my beautiful book babes out there, when you ask, "what kind of books do you write?" and s/he is at a loss for words, consider this, it's not that we don't know what kind of books we write... for me it's that what I write about can't be described in one word.
You the reader can determine that, once you read for yourself because everyone's perception is different. So read, then determine if this is the lane for you and then move forward, always respectfully.
Thank you in advance for your support and love as always, I see them orders and reviews :-) And I won't ever take them for granted.
Tell a friend about me, please spread love. It's the Brooklyn way!
xoxo
